Aktuelle Gespräche von Apple mit den chinesischen Batterieherstellern CATL und BYD sind offenbar zum Stillstand gekommen. Laut Insider-Informationen der Nachrichtenagentur Reuters verfolgt Apple das inoffizielle Vorhaben, ein eigenes Elektroauto zu bauen. Streitpunkt sei, dass CATL und BYD bislang wohl keine speziellen Teams und Standorte in den USA vorbereiten wollen.

Technische Hürden …
Beide Unternehmen hätten Apple mitgeteilt, dass sie nicht in der Lage seien, die Anforderungen des Technologiekonzerns zu erfüllen. Apple habe jedoch bislang nicht die Hoffnung aufgeben, die Planungen mit den gewünschten Partnern fortzuführen. Laut Quelle stehen allerdings nicht nur technische Hürden im Raum: Beide chinesischen Hersteller zögern wohl auch aufgrund der aktuell angespannten politischen Lage zwischen Washington und Peking.

… und politische Vorbehalte
Aus den Diskrepanzen habe sich ergeben, dass Apple in der Zwischenzeit auch Partnerschaften mit japanischen Herstellern in Betracht gezogen habe. So hätten bereits erste Gespräche mit Panasonic stattgefunden, das viele Jahre lang Tesla mit Batteriezellen versorgt hat. Apples Bemühungen sollen auf der LFP-Zellchemie aufbauen. Der Markteintritt für die Elektrofahrzeuge des Computer-Giganten sei für das Jahr 2024 geplant. Offiziell hat Apple sich bislang jedoch nie öffentlich zu dieser Ambition bekannt.
