Der europäische Automobilkonzern Stellantis und der koreanische Batteriehersteller LG Energy Solution haben sich für ein Batterie-Joint-Venture in Nordamerika zusammengeschlossen. Offiziellen Angaben beider Unternehmen zufolge soll die Herstellung von Batteriezellen und -modulen bei einer jährlichen Produktionskapazität von 40 Gigawattstunden ab dem ersten Quartal 2024 beginnen.

40 Prozent Umsatzanteil durch Elektrofahrzeuge
Laut Stellantis soll die Partnerschaft dazu führen, dass die Europäer bis zum Jahr 2030 in Nordamerika einen Anteil von 40 Prozent am Umsatz durch Fahrzeugverkäufe mit elektrischen Modellen erreichen. Der erste Spatenstich für am neuen Batterieproduktionsstandort sei für das zweite Quartal 2022 vorgesehen. Die Ankündigung sei „ein weiterer Beweis dafür, dass wir unseren ehrgeizigen Elektrifizierungsplan umsetzen“, sagt Stellantis-CEO Carlos Tavares.

Versorgung von Fabriken in USA, Kanada und Mexiko
Die Zellen, die Stellantis und LG Energy Solution am bis dato ungenannten Standort in Nordamerika künftig produzieren wollen, sollen die Fabriken von Stellantis in den USA, Kanada und Mexiko mit Batterien beliefern. Dabei handelt es sich um Werke, in denen unter anderem Fahrzeuge der Marken Jeep, Dodge und RAM hergestellt werden. Die Batteriezellen sollen generell so ausgelegt werden, dass sie sowohl in reinen batterieelektrischen Fahrzeugen als auch in Plug-in-Modellen eingesetzt werden können.
