Der Elektroautobauer Tesla betont öffentlich, dass mit seinen Recycling-Verfahren ein hoher Prozentsatz der Batteriezellenmaterialien zurückgewonnen werden könne. Die Informationen sind Teil des aktuellen „Impact Report“ von Tesla, in dem das Unternehmen auch bestätigt, dass die erste Stufe der eigenen Batterie-Recycling-Anlage Ende 2020 in Betrieb genommen wurde.

„Innovationskreislauf für das Batterie-Recycling in großem Maßstab“
Im vierten Quartal habe Tesla die erste Phase in der Gigafactory Nevada erfolgeich installiert, um sowohl Schrott aus der Batterieproduktion als auch Altbatterien intern zu verarbeiten, heißt es. Das Unternehmen arbeite zwar seit Jahren mit externen Recycling-Anbietern zusammen, um sicherzustellen, dass die Batterien nicht auf Mülldeponien landen, jedoch bringe das eigene Recycling den Elektroautobauer der Schließung des Materialkreislaufs einen Schritt näher, da Tesla die Rohstoffe direkt an seine Nickel- und Kobaltlieferanten weiterleiten könne. „Die Anlage setzt den Innovationskreislauf für das Batterierecycling in großem Maßstab in Gang und ermöglicht es Tesla, aktuelle Designs durch betriebliche Erkenntnisse schnell zu verbessern sowie Prozesstests für Forschungs- und Entwicklungsprodukte vorzunehmen“, lässt Tesla offiziell verlauten.

Im vergangenen Jahr bereits 1.300 Tonnen Nickel zurückgewonnen
In seinem „Impact Report 2020“ hat der Autohersteller neben einer Vielzahl genereller Daten zum Batteriemarkt auch ein Diagramm veröffentlicht, aus dem hervorgeht, dass Tesla dank seiner Verfahren mehr als 92 Prozent der Rohstoffe recyceln könne. Im Jahr 2020 sei es bereits gelungen, 1.300 Tonnen Nickel, 400 Tonnen Kupfer und 80 Tonnen Kobalt wiederzugewinnen.
