Das schwedische Start-up-Unternehmen Northvolt scheint eigene Pläne in Deutschland zu verfolgen. Bekannt wurde der Batteriezellhersteller hierzulande vor allem wegen seiner engen Kooperation mit VW. Beide Projektpartner waren seit 2019 im Rahmen von Volkswagens erster Batteriezellfertigung aktiv, bis VW im März ankündigte, das Vorhaben in Salzgitter alleine umsetzen zu wollen.
„Wir sind mit mehreren Bundesländern über die Möglichkeit im Gespräch, in Deutschland eine Fabrik zu errichten“, bestätigte Northvolt-Chef Peter Carlsson vor kurzem in einem Interview mit der „Automobilwoche“. Dabei gebe es bereits die Zusage, dass ein solches Projekt im Rahmen der Förderung europäischer Batteriezellvorhaben von Deutschland unterstützt werde.
Hohe Energiekosten könnten Dämpfer sein
Trotz der laufenden Verhandlungen sei jedoch noch unsicher, dass Northvolt sich tatsächlich mit einer Batteriezellfertigung in Deutschland ansiedelt. Ein Knackpunkt liege etwa darin, dass die Skandinavier mit bundesweit hohen Energiekosten zu kämpfen hätte, vor allem bei einer nachhaltigen Energieversorgung aus ökologischer Stromgewinnung. Northvolt bringt aus Schweden einen hohen Standard für günstigen Strom aus Wasserkraftanlagen mit. „Wir untersuchen derzeit, wie wir dieses Problem lösen können“, sagt Carlsson, „denn wir wollen auf jeden Fall dem gleichen Anspruch an Nachhaltigkeit wie in Schweden gerecht werden.“
