Zwei Monate ist es her, dass wir zum letzten Mal einen Blick auf die europäischen Batteriestandorte geworfen haben. Nachdem es in der Zwischenzeit etwas ruhiger geworden war, mehren sich im Juni wieder Berichte über neue Projekte zur Batterieproduktion in Europa.
Neu in Erscheinung tritt Automobilhersteller Volvo, der mit dem bekannten skandinavischen Start-up-Unternehmen Northvolt ein Joint Venture (JV) zur Batteriezellfertigung gründet. Außerdem konkretisieren sich Informationen zum schon auf unserer letzten Batteriekarte aufgeführten JV-Projekt zwischen Porsche und Customcells, das vor kurzem offiziell verkündet wurde. Ab 2024 solle es Batterien hervorbringen und langfristig mehr als 100 Megawattstunden jährlicher Batteriespeicherkapazität für Hochleistungselektrofahrzeuge auffahren.
Batterieproduktion à la carte
Neben den beiden offiziell angekündigten Vorhaben liegen indes wieder neue Gerüchte in der Luft – vor allem zu Daimler. Obwohl sich der Konzern lange Zeit und noch zuletzt strategisch davon distanziert hatte, eigene Zellen herzustellen, ist dies laut Insider-Informationen inzwischen hinfällig geworden. Konkret will es der Premiumfahrzeughersteller wohl doch den zahlreichen Wettbewerbern nachmachen und eigene Batteriezellen sowohl entwickeln als auch produzieren. Sobald sich diese Information – wie zuletzt bei SEAT und Porsche – bestätigt, wird auch Daimler seinen Weg auf unsere Karte finden.
EU noch sehr kleiner Batterieproduzent
Auch wenn sich inzwischen eine große Menge von Batterieprojekten formiert hat, liegt die EU aktuell immer noch deutlich in der Batterieproduktion hinter dem asiatischen Markt zurück. Derzeit stammt weniger als ein Prozent aller weltweit hergestellten Batterien aus Europa, mehr als 90 Prozent hingegen kommen aus Asien.
