Der Anfang 2021 gegründete Automobilkonzern Stellantis, zu dem unter anderem die Marken Fiat, Peugeot und Opel gehören, erwägt offenbar den Bau eines Batteriewerks in Italien. Laut Informationen von Reuters steht das Unternehmen derzeit in Gesprächen mit der italienischen Regierung. Für Stellantis und Tochter Fiat ist das Land einer der entscheidenden Produktionsstandorte in Europa.
Projekt profitiert womöglich von staatlichem Subventionsprogramm
„Die Gespräche befinden sich im Stadium eines Austauschs über das Prinzip der Schaffung einer Gigafactory, um Stellantisʼ künftigen Bedarf zu decken“, heißt es seitens der Reuters-Quelle. Das Projekt könnte direkt vom italienischem Maßnahmenplan zur Stimulation der Wirtschaft nach der Corona-Pandemie profitieren. Dazu stehen insgesamt 205 Milliarden Euro bereit, von denen 24 Milliarden Euro direkt in die Entwicklung von Industrien nachhaltiger Technologien fließen sollen. Auch dadurch, dass der Konzern zahlreiche Fahrzeuge in Italien produziert, besteht laut Reuters für den italienischen Staat ein erhebliches Interesse daran, die Ambitionen von Stellantis zu unterstützen.
Im vergangenen Februar hatte Italvolt – ein Unternehmen von Lars Carlstrom, Gründer des britischen Gigafactory-Vorhabens BritishVolt – verkündet, in Italien eine große Produktionsstätte zur Batteriezellfertigung aufbauen zu wollen.
