Das von BMW und Ford vor kurzem als Partner vorgestellte Unternehmen Solid Power hat Details zu einer Festkörperbatterie-Plattform bekanntgegeben. Ziel sei es, dass die Batterien erheblich leistungsfähiger werden und die Kathodenmaterialkosten sich parallel dazu um bis zu 90 Prozent verringern lassen.

Dafür soll unter anderem ein fester Elektrolyt auf Sulfid-Basis zum Einsatz kommen, der entweder mit einer Anode aus Lithium-Metall oder einer Anode mit hohem Silizium-Gehalt genutzt werden kann. Als Kathode sind aktuell übliche Aktivmaterialien vorgesehen – einschließlich der auf Nickel-Mangan-Kobaltoxid basierenden Zellchemie.

Zum Serienstart 2026: Kleiner und leichter
Solid Power hat bereits ein Batteriepack entwickelt, das mit einer Speicherkapazität von 77 Kilowattstunden in der Größenordnung der MEB-Plattform des VW-Konzerns liegt. Im Gegensatz zu Batteriesystemen vergleichbarer Dimension soll der Festkörper-Akku um 44 Prozent kleiner und je nach Anodenwahl um mindestens 200 Kilogramm leichter werden. Durch die effizientere Batterietechnik soll die Reichweite der Fahrzeuge bei gleicher Kapazität um bis zu 16 Prozent steigen, während die Kosten um mehr als 4.000 US-Dollar pro Batteriepack abnehmen könnten, heißt es seitens Solid Power. Der Serienstart ist indes für das Jahr 2026 angekündigt.
