Der Batteriehersteller Microvast und der französische Bushersteller Safra haben gemeinsam einen Rahmenvertrag über eine dreijährige Batteriezulieferung abgeschlossen. Festgehalten wurde, dass Microvast bis zu 2.000 Batteriepacks an Safra liefern wird. Auf der Basis dieser Batteriesysteme plant Safra die Produktion von Elektro- und Hybridbussen sowie die Nachrüstung von Bussen mit Batteriespeichern.
Im Rahmen der Partnerschaft noch unklar ist, um welche Batteriezellen sowie Batteriepackarchitekturen es sich genau handeln soll. Im Oktober des letzten Jahres stellte Microvast jedoch eine neuartige Pouch-Batteriezelle vor, die sich durch besonderes schnelle Ladezeiten (0% – 100% in 20 min) auszeichnen würde. Damals verkündete Microvast, dass sich die entwickelte Batteriezelle insbesondere für den Heavy-Duty EV Markt eignen würde, da die Zellen zwar keine höchsten Leistungsdichten aufweisen, jedoch mit 8.000 Lade- und Entladevorgängen auf relativ langlebig ausgelegt sind. Im Februar dieses Jahres stellte Microvast zudem seine neue Europazentrale in Ludwigsfelde nahe Berlin vor. In unmittelbarer Nähe hierzu befindet sich eine Produktionslinie für Module, deren Eröffnung Microvast für März dieses Jahres angeben hatte und auf der auch die Batteriesysteme für Safra entstehen könnten.
Auf Basis der Batteriezellen von Microvast plant Safra wiederum die Markteinführung eines ersten E-Busses Ende dieses Jahres. Beide Unternehmen wollen bis dahin „weitere Möglichkeiten im Geschäft mit Brennstoffzellenbussen und mit der Nachrüstung von Bussen sondieren“.
