In einer aktuellen Pressemitteilung gibt BYD neue Einblicke in die Leistungsdaten der eigen entwickelten „Blade Battery“. Die Batteriezelle die aufgrund ihrer enormen Länge entfernt an ein Schwert erinnert, soll 1,2 Millionen Kilometer im Einsatz halten bzw. 3000 Ladezyklen überstehen können. Während die Batterie auf Basis der LFP-Zellchemie sehr sicher ist, kann die Ladegeschwindigkeit jedoch nicht überzeugen.

Vor ziemlich genau einem Jahr stellte der chinesische Elektroautobauer und Batteriezellproduzent BYD die ersten Informationen zu seiner sogenannten Blade Battery vor. Heute, nach einem Jahr, gibt der Konzern nun detailliertere Leistungsinformationen. Dazu gehören die beschriebene Langlebigkeit der Zellen, Informationen zur thermischen Stabilität (die für alle LFP-Zelltypen gilt, die Zellen sind sehr sicher) sowie eine Aussage zur Ladegeschwindigkeit. Letztere kann jedoch keine neuen Maßstäbe setzen, BYD gibt die Ladegeschwindigkeit von 30% – 80% Ladezustand mit 30 min an, was verhältnismäßig langsam ist. Keine konkrete Aussage gab es zur Energiedichte der Batteriezelle, die bei LFP-Zellchemien jedoch im Normalfall deutlich unter zum Beispiel NMC-basierten Zellen liegt.

Neben den Leistungsdaten gab BYD zudem Einblicke in die Produktion der Blade Battery, die künftig im chinesischem Batteriewerk in Chongqing produziert werden soll. Das Werk, das einer Investition von 1,3 Milliarden Euro bedurfte, soll künftig 20 GWh pro Jahr an Blade Batterien produzieren.
