Die US-amerikanische International Trade Commission (ITC) hat sich in einem Rechtsstreit zwischen LG Chem und SK Innovation auf die Seite von LG Chem gestellt und SK Innovation die Veruntreuung von Geschäftsgeheimnissen im Zusammenhang mit EV-Fahrzeugbatterietechnik zu lasten gelegt. SK Innovation trifft nun ein 10-jähriges Importverbot einiger LIB-Typen in die USA.

Dem zuvor gegangen war ein seit 2019 laufender Streit über weitergebene Firmengeheimnis von LG Chem durch SKI in den USA, den Kim Jong-hyun, CEO von LG Energy Solution, in einer Stellungnahme so beschrieb: „SKIs totale Missachtung unserer Warnungen und geistigen Eigentumsrechte hat uns keine andere Wahl gelassen, als diesen Fall einzureichen“ und fügt an, dass das Unternehmen künftig den Schutz des geistigen Eigentums weiter stärken würde.

Neben dem aktuell ausgesprochenen Verbot, kann SK Innovation andere Projektvorhaben in den USA nach dem Urteilsspruch des ITC jedoch erst einmal fortsetzen. So bleibt es für SKI weiterhin erlaubt Komponenten der Batterieproduktion in die USA einzuführen, sodass SKI in den nächsten vier Jahren wie geplant die Partnerschaft mit Ford zu einer inländischen Batteriezellproduktion vorantreiben kann. Auch die Produktion von Batterien für die US-amerikanische MEB-Plattform des VW Konzerns bleibt für die nächsten zwei Jahre erst einmal gesichert.
