Der norwegische Aluminiumproduzent Norsk Hydro und der schwedische Batteriehersteller Northvolt haben zusammen das Joint Venture Hydrovolt gegründet und planen den Aufbau einer Batterie-Recyclinganlage im norwegischen Fredrikstad. Die Anlage, die ein Investitionsvolumen von 11,7 Millionen Euro umfasst, soll schon Ende 2021 den Betrieb aufnehmen.
Mit der Anlage positioniert sich vor allem der Aluminiumhersteller Hydro weiter im Bereich der Batterietechnik. Erst im vergangenen Jahr wurde bekannt, dass Hydro in Zusammenarbeit mit den Partnern Panasonic und Equinor eine strategische Analyse des europäischen Batteriemarktes anstreben würde.
Die Anlage, die in Fredrikstad entsteht, soll dabei eine der fortschrittlichsten ihrer Art werden und zu Beginn jährlich 8.000 t an Batteriemasse recyclen können. Das Verfahren soll ausschließ auf einer in Norwegen stark ausgeprägten erneuerbaren Energieversorgung basieren und durch einen hohen Grad der Prozessautomatisierung effektiv sein. Die Anlage sei so ausgelegt, dass diese nicht ausschließlich Elektroautobatterien, sondern mit weiterer Marktetablierung batterieelektrischer Konzepte auch zum Beispiel Marinebatterien verarbeiten könnte.
Auch in Deutschland wird aktuell das Thema des Batterierecyclings fokussiert. Erst Ende des letzten Monats hat VW seine Pilotanlage zum Batterierecycling in Salzgitter vorgestellt und bereits ein Video aus dem laufenden Betrieb bereitgestellt.
