Ein internationales Konsortium bestehend aus dem Automobilhersteller Audi und zahlreichen Zulieferern entlang der Wertschöpfungskette bei der Produktion eines Batteriegehäuses, wie Asahi Kasei, Covestro, EconCore, IPTE, Johns Manville und weitere, plant die Entwicklung eines durch einen Multimaterialansatz gewichtsoptimierten Batteriegehäuse. Aktuelle Gehäusestrukturen, hauptsächlich aus Aluminium und Stahl produziert sollen abgelöst werden.

Die partnerschaftliche Entwicklung wird von der Aachner AZL GmbH in Kooperation mit dem Aachener Zentrum für integrativen Leichtbau (AZL) der RWTH Aachen koordiniert. In einem gesamten Projektzeitraum vom acht Monaten werden die ersten Schritte eine Marktanalyse sowie eine Konzeptstudie einschließlich Produktionsszenarien und eine Kostenanalyse enthalten, bevor final ein Multimaterial-Batteriegehäuse entworfen werden soll. Das final entwickelte Konzept soll im Anschluss in einem Folgeprojekt als Prototyp gebaut werden.

„Batteriegehäuse sind eine Schlüsselkomponente in Elektrofahrzeugen. Die Anforderungen sind anspruchsvoll und für verschiedene Fahrzeugklassen sehr individuell“, sagt Dr.-Ing. Florian Meyer, Projektmanagement Mentor aus der technischen Entwicklung der Audi AG. „Wir freuen uns auf den kreativen Austausch mit dem wertschöpfungsketten- und werkstoffklassenübergreifenden Konsortium, um herauszufinden, wie wir durch den Einsatz von kunststoffbasierten Multimateriallösungen gegenüber dem Status-quo-Lösungen aus Metall Gewicht und Kosten sparen können“.
