Die chinesische Elektromarke BYD, die unter anderem auch für ihre Batteriezellproduktion bekannt ist, eröffnet ein neues Werk in Brasilien. Am neuen Produktionsstandort sollen vor allem LFP-Zellmodule produziert werden. BYD schafft hiermit das erste Werk zur Produktion dieses Batterietyps in Brasilien.

Entstehen soll die neue Batterieproduktion in der Manaus Industrial Zone (PIM) im nördlichen Bundesstaat Amazonas, wo eine Fläche von 5.000 m² bebaut werden soll. Die brasilianische Anlage soll nach BYD Aussage langfristig eine Produktionskapazität von 18.000 Batteriemodulen pro Jahr bereitstellen, schon zum September dieses Jahres sollen die ersten 1.000 Batteriemodule ausgeliefert werden. In Bezug auf die verwendete Produktionstechnik hebt BYD insbesondere den hohen Grad der Automatisierung, im Verbund mit der eingesetzten Robotik, hervor und bewirbt die daraus gewonnene Qualität und Sicherheit der hergestellten Produkte.

Bezüglich der aktuellen Fertigstellung der Produktion äußerst sich Tyler Li, Brasilien Chef von BYD, sinngemäß wie folgt: „Derzeit produzieren wir täglich 48 Batteriemodule. Das Verfahren ist schnell und technisch, denn hier in Manaus haben wir nun die automatisierte Infrastruktur geschaffen, um Batterien schneller und sicherer zu auszuliefern.“ Und weiter: „Unser Ansatz ist es, die Elektrifizierung von Mobilität und Ausrüstung im Land zu popularisieren und zu erleichtern.“

Mit dem neuen Produktionsstandort plant BYD, dass neben den Batterien auch eigenständig Busse, Taxis und LKW elektrifiziert, weiter deutlich auf dem lateinamerikanischen Markt zu expandieren. Aktuell nutzten Chile, Brasilien, Kolumbien, Argentinien, Peru und Uruguay bereits die von BYD gelieferten batterieelektrischen Produkte.
