Das südkoreanische Batterieunternehmen Kokam, eine Tochter von SolarEdge, hat ein neues Batteriesystem für unterbrechungskritische elektrische Anwendungen auf den Markt gebracht. Kokam ist bereits auf dem Markt der Notstrombatteriesysteme aktiv und bewirbt das neue System vor allem in Bezug auf die innovative Zelltechnik und die hohe Energiedichte.

Das entwickelte Batteriesystem soll zum Beispiel für Datenzentren als Energie Back-Up genutzt werden. Hier hat Kokam bereits in der Vergangenheit Produkte im Bereich von 472 kWh bis 10,6 MWh Speicherkapazität ausgeliefert. Da bei Notenergiespeichern in der Regel noch Blei-Säure-Batterien genutzt werden, ist das neue Lithium-Ionen basierte System 20% leichter und 46% schmäler. Ebenso verringert sich, nach Aussage von Kokam, die TCO (total cost of ownership) um 40%.

Als Batteriehersteller ist Kokam aktuell, neben der Versorgung von betriebskritischen Einrichtungen, auch im Markt der Speicherung von erneuerbaren Energiequellen in großen Pufferbatterien aktiv. Neben den Energiespeichern beliefert Kokam weiterhin vor allem diverse Spezialbereich mit Batteriesystemen. Neben Trams, Bussen und Baumaschinen, gehören auch Marine- oder militärische Endanwendungen zu den Kunden die Kokam mit oftmals spezialisierten Batteriesystemen beliefert.
