Der Elektrofahrzeughersteller Electra hat sich verpflichtet, ein System zu verwenden, das den Zustand einer Elektroautobatterie überwacht und eine Angabe macht, wann eine Batterie am besten für die Nutzung in einer Second-Life Anwendung geeignet ist und entsprechend gewechselt werden sollte.

Während die EU unlängst ein System für die Überwachung des Lebenszyklus einer Batterie in Elektrofahrzeug im Rahmen eines Batterie-„Pass“ plante, verfügt der Hersteller Electra Commercial Vehicles, aus England, bereits heute über ein solches System in den eigenen Fahrzeugen. Electra hat sich daher nun selbst dazu verpflichtet, dass alle seine Fahrzeuge einen Batterie-Pass erhalten sollen, welcher in Zusammenarbeit mit den britischen Firmen CodeSmith Technology und Warwick Control entwickelt wurde.

Durch das permanente Auslesen der Batterie im Fahrzeug können diese Daten Recyclingunternehmen zur Verfügung gestellt werden, welche wiederum die primären Batterien für eine Second-Life Nutzung als stationärer Energiespeicher aufbereiten. Sowohl der Fahrer des Fahrzeuges als auch das weiterverarbeitende Unternehmen erkennen unmittelbar, welchen Wert die Traktionsbatterie zum Zeitpunkt x für den Aufbereitermarkt hat.

Für Electra-Geschäftsführer, Ben Smith, ist die neue Technologie ein wesentlicher Beitrag zum sorgfältigen Umgang mit Altbatterien: „As a responsible vehicle manufacturer, Battery Passport enables Electra to meet its battery recycling responsibilities by diverting batteries away from disposal and into the second-life sector. Our customers directly benefit from the Battery Passport as it secures the batteries residual value, providing a better price to the vehicle owner when the battery is sold into the second-life market.“
