Das norwegische Unternehmen FREYR hat einen Vertrag für die gemeinsame Planung einer Batteriezellfabrik unterzeichnet. Im Detail geht es um die Entwicklung, die Planung sowie das PMO für eine Zellfabrik im norwegischen Mo i Rana. Umlaut reiht sich damit neben die anderen Unternehmen Norconsult, Ramboll und Metier mit ebenfalls unterzeichneten Rahmenverträgen ein. Darüber hinaus wurde Siemens für die Systemintegration gewonnen. Weitere Partner sind SINTEF und NTNU. Das Unternehmen baut so eine gesamte Wertschöpfungskette auf. Der Baustart für das Projekt ist für das kommende Jahr geplant.

Bereits im Jahr 2019 wurden die Pläne zum Bau der Fabrik in Norwegen bekannt. Das Geschäftsmodell basiert vor allem auf der Schaffung intensiver Technologie-Partnerschaften. Hierzu wurde im Februar der ehemalige Leiter der EV-Sparte von Dyson, Ryuta Kawaguchi, gewonnen.

Bei Fertigstellung soll eine Gesamtkapazität von 2+32 GWh ermöglicht werden. Unterstützend kommt ein Windpark mit rund 600 MW hinzu. Zielgruppe sind die europäischen Automobilhersteller. Weitere Wachstumsmärkte sollen aber ebenfalls bedient werden können. Das Investitionsvolumen beträgt rund 4,5 Mrd. USD.
