Nach vielfältige Gerüchten seit Anfang des Jahres berichtet das Nachrichtenportal Reuters.com von einer Investition von rund 2 Milliarden Euro durch Volkswagen in zwei chinesiche Unternehmen mit dem Schwerpunkt Elektromobilität. Einerseits wurde der Anteil an der Muttergesellschaft der Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC Motors) auf rund 75% erhöht. VW erlangt hierdurch die Kontrolle über das Management.

Andererseits wurde die Anteile an dem Batteriehersteller Guoxuan High-tech Co Ltd deutlich erhöht. Nach Abschluss der Transaktion bis Ende 2020 wird VW größter Aktionär. Die produzierten Zellen sollen die Lieferkette für den chinesischen Markt unterstützen. Andere Verträge mit Batterielieferanten seien nicht betroffen.

Positionierung im größten Markt für Elektromobilität

Im Rahmen der Veröffentlichung sagte der VW-Vorstandsvorsitzende Diess „Zusammen mit starken und verlässlichen Partnern baut Volkswagen seine E-Offensive in China weiter aus. Das Segment der Elektroautos wächst schnell und bietet großes Potenzial für JAC Volkswagen. Durch unsere strategische Beteiligung an Gotion treiben wir auch in China aktiv die Entwicklung der Batteriezelle voran.“

Der CEO der Volkswagen Group China, Dr. Wöllenstein, ergänzte: „Erstmalig übernimmt Volkswagen im Land eine strategische Rolle in einem staatlichen Unternehmen und investiert direkt in einen chinesischen Batterielieferanten. „

Interessant an der Akquisition von Guoxuan ist, dass diese hauptsächlich Zellen basierend auf Lithium-Eisen-Phosphat produzieren. Auch Tesla kündigte die Zusammenarbeit mit CATL für LFP-Zellen an. Die beiden Automobilhersteller setzen für den chinesischen Markt anscheinend auf die günstigere Zellchemie im Vergleich zu den NMC-basierten Zellen und können auf den negativ konnotierten Rohstoff Kobalt verzichten.
