Der schwedische Hersteller von Speichersystemen Northvolt hat ein modulares Batteriesystem entwickelt, dass in verschiedenen Marktsegmenten eingesetzt werden soll und insbesondere für abgelegene oder schwache Netze geeignet sei. Die Batterie des „Voltpack Mobile System“ genanntem Systems soll vor allem gegen die bekannten Tesla Power- und Megapacks antreten.

Vorteil des Systems beschreibt Northvolt dabei zum Beispiel in Bezug auf eine flexible Skalierbarkeit, da die Systeme, die bis zu 250 kW Leistung aufweisen, je nach Bedarf für eine Gesamtspeicherkapazität von 245 bis 1225 kWh in Reihe geschaltet werden können. Northvolts President Battery Systems, Emad Zand, sagt hierzu: „Wir sehen auf dem Markt einen erhöhten Bedarf an flexiblen Lösungen, sowohl im Hinblick auf den Anwendungsfall als auch auf den Standort. Das Voltpack Mobile System wurde entwickelt, um unseren Kunden eine Flotte von Anlagen zur Verfügung zu stellen, die nahtlos umverteilt, wiederverwendet und verbunden werden können.“

Aktuell befindet sich das System in Kooperation mit dem deutschen Energieversoger Vattenfall in einem ersten anwendungsseitigen Testbetrieb. Dazu ebenso Zand: „Vattenfall ist seit unseren frühesten Tagen ein unschätzbarer Partner von Northvolt, Vattenfalls Beiträge zu diesem Projekt haben es uns ermöglicht, die Entwicklung eines nach Kundenanforderungen gebauten Produkts zu beschleunigen“.
