Der Spezialchemiehersteller Lanxess will schwächelnde Bereiche wie die Lederchemieherstellung durch die Stärkung der Bereiche für die Elektromobilität ausgleichen. Der größte Anbieter von Flusssäure und Phosphorchemikalien in Europa hofft auf weiter steigende Nachfragen für Batterien. Große Hoffnung ruht auch in der Lithium-Förderung im US-amerikanischen El Dorado. Für das laufende Jahr werden mit Belastungen von rund 100 Millionen Euro durch die Coronoa-Pandemie gerechnet.

Audi hat die Produktion seiner Serie e-Tron aufgrund mangelnder Versorgung mit Batteriezellen aus Asien eingestellt. Volkswagen, Daimler, Fiat, PSA und Ford drosseln ihre Produktion und legen teilweise die Produktion still. Dies betrifft vor allem die europäischen Werke. BMW produziert nach aktuellem Stand unveränder weiter. Daimler verwies auf Schwierigkeiten in der globalen Lieferkette, die „derzeit nicht in vollem Umfang aufrechterhalten werden können“.
Porsche schloss seine Produktion nur vorbergehend, um Zeit zur adäquaten Reaktion der Belegschaft auf die neuen Umstände zu ermöglichen. Der Elektromobilhersteller Tesla musste Anfang des Jahres seine Fabrik in Shanghai vorübergehend schließen. Trotz eines Shutdowns in der Bay Area verläuft dort die Produktion momentan normal weiter.
