Das Analyseunternehmen PreScouter hat eine Studie zum Lithium-Ionen-Batteriemarkt veröffentlicht. Der Bericht untersucht einerseits nach Zellchemie getrennt die zukünftigen Potentiale. Für das klassische NMC wird ein Marktanteil von 63% im Jahre 2027 basierend auf einer aktuellen Marktdurchdringung von 28% vorhergesagt. Der Trend geht hier zu einer Reduzierung des Cobaltanteils zugunsten von Nickel, auch um Kosten einzusparen auf der Rohstoffseite. Interessant ist hierbei die Kooperation von LG Chem und 3M bezüglich der Verwendung von Patenten für die Verwendung der NMC Technologie.

Bezüglich der Lithium-Eisen-Phosphat-Technologie (LFP) wird ein CAGR von 20,7% erwartet. Die asiatischen Großkonzerne wie CATL oder BYD werden hier die Keyplayer sein. Als Vorteil für die Verwendung in der Elektromobilität werden insbesondere der große Temperaturbereich und die geringere Chance für Thermal Runaways zitiert. Dem gegenüber stehen die geringere Energiedichte.

Die Haupttreiber für den Batteriemarkt bleiben die Automobile sowie die zunehmende Automatisierung und die Integration von Batterien zu Handlingszwecken. LFP seien die sichersten Batterien am Markt und sollen bald mit einer Energiedichte von 250 Wh/l zu den NMC Batterien mit 580 Wh/l aufschließen.

Im Jahre 2027 wird ein Bedarf im Automobilbereich von mehr als einem TWh erwartet. Die weiteren Bereiche wie tragbare Elektronikgeräte machen demgegenüber nur 140 MWh aus. Rund 58% des Bedarfs werden nach Berechnungen von PreScouter aus chinesischen Fabriken stammen. Dementsprechend wird der Automobilmarkt den Batteriemarkt aus Nachfragesicht dominieren. Entsprechende Leistungsdichten sowie Lebensdaueranforderungen seien bereits erreicht. Nachholbedarf bestehe aber bei der Toxikologie und der Zuverlässigkeit.
