Webasto hat im chinesischen Jiaxing (Provinz Zhejiang) – in der Nähe von Shanghai – eine neue Produktionsstätte für Dachsysteme und ein Batteriezentrum eröffnet. Neben dem neuen Standort beschäftigen sich seit einiger Zeit aber auch weitere chinesische Standorte mit Produkten für die E-Mobilitätssparte.

Seit Herbst fertigt das Werk in Wuhan bereits elektrische Heizsysteme und Ladestationen. Das neue Batteriezentrum soll die Möglichkeiten für technische Prüfungen, sowie den Bau von Prototypen und die Batterieproduktion, bieten. Damit können vollständige und funktionsfähige Batteriesysteme vom neuen Standort an den Kunden geliefert werden. H. Engelmann, Vorsitzender des Vorstandes der Webasto SE, erklärt „die Eröffnung des neuen Standortes als Fortsetzung der erfolgreichen Doppelstrategieimplementierung in China.“ „Wir stärken im weltweit größten Markt für Webasto unser Kerngeschäft mit Dachsystemen und bauen zugleich unser Geschäftsfeld mit Lösungen für die Elektromobilität aus. (…)Trotz der Herausforderungen des Marktes sehen wir hier weiteres Wachstumspotenzial für Webasto.“ (H Engelmann)

Insgesamt arbeiten zu Beginn 200 Mitarbeiter am 44.000 qm großen Standort. Die Belegschaft soll jedoch noch bis Ende des Jahres auf 460 Mitarbeiter ausgebaut werden. Das Batteriezentrum nimmt eine Fläche von rund 9.600 qm ein. Wie viele Mitarbeiter in den unterschiedlichen Abteilungen arbeiten werden nicht bekanntgegeben. In der Pressemitteilung wird zudem kein Zell-Lieferant genannt. Bislang wurden die Zellen in den Batteriepack-Produktionsstädten in Europa von Samsung SDI zugeliefert.
