Der 2008 gegründete Darmstädter Hersteller hochwertiger Speicherbatteriesysteme Akasol, wird in naher Zukunft Batterien für 40 Brennstoffzellen betriebene Züge des Herstellers Alstom liefern, die in dieser Form von den Landesnahverkehrsgesellschaft Niedersachsen und Rhein-Main bei Alstom in Auftrag gegeben wurden.

Die schon seit 2013 nach den Anforderungen von Alstom von Akasol entwickelten Batteriesysteme, sind flüssiggekühlt und besitzen eine Speicherkapazität von 111 kWh bei einer nominellen Spannung von 800 Volt. Damit ist ein Batteriesystem von Akasol bei gleicher Betriebsspannung grob vergleichbar mit einer ca. 20 kWh kapazitiv schwächeren Porsche Taycan Batterie von Dräxlmaier. Mit den von Akasol hergestellten Batterien steht eine durchschnittliche Leistung von 221 kW und eine max. 40 sekündige Peakleistung von 450 kW zur Verfügung. Im gemeinsamen Verbund aus Brennstoffzelle und Batterie erreichen die Züge eine Gesamtreichweit von bis zu 1000 km. Auf heute ausgelieferte Batterien übernimmt Akasol dabei eine auf 15 Jahre beschränkte Garantie.

Mit dem Projekt schafft Akasol eine Leuchturmreferenz im Gebiet der Brennstoffzelle und erweitert den eigenen Kundenstamm. Dabei ist die Kooperation mit Alstom insbesondere auch längerfristig ausgelegt. Die Kooperation sieht hier in den kommenden Jahrzehnten die Bestellung und Fertigung von insgesamt bis zu 500 Batteriesystemen für 250 Züge von Akasol vor.
