BMW hat eine Investition von rund 10 Millionen USD zur Verdopplung der Packmontage für das US-Werk Spartanburg veröffentlicht. Der Automobilbauer reagiert damit auf die zukünftige Elektrifizierung der Flotte. Ob alle Kapazitäten auch genutzt werden, ist laut BMW von der Nachfrage abhängig. Zellen für die Batteriepacks werden weiterhin zugekauft. In diesem Rahmen wurde auch ein umfassendes Qualifikationsprogramm für Mitarbeiter gestartet. Insgesamt 345 der insgesamt 11.000 Mitarbeiter wurden speziell im Umgang mit Zellen sowohl in der Batteriepack- als auch in der Automobilmontage geschult.

In Spartanburg in den USA werden die SUVs der X-Reihe gebaut. Für das kommenden Jahr ist beispielsweise die elektrifizierte Version des X5 angekündigt. In den vergangenen drei Jahren wurden in Spartanburg rund 45.000 Packs assembliert.
