Die „Kontrolmatik Technologies“-Tochterfirma Pomega Energy Storage Technologies setzt am 2. Februar in South Carolina den ersten Spatenstich für ihre erstes US-amerikanisches Werk zur Herstellung von Lithium-Ionen-Batterien. Die 50.000 Quadratmeter große Anlage in Colleton County soll Mitte 2024 die Produktion aufnehmen, etwa 575 Arbeitsplätze schaffen und eine Startkapazität von drei Gigawattstunden haben.
Investition von 275 Millionen Euro
Kontrolmatik Technologies hatte den Bau der Gigafactory im Dezember 2022 angekündigt und plant seitdem, die Produktionskapazität später auf sechs Gigawattstunden zu erhöhen. Insgesamt investiert das Unternehmen rund 275 Millionen Euro in die neue Anlage.
LFP-Zellchemie für Batteriespeicher
Pomega will im US-Werk Lithium-Eisenphosphat-Zellen herstellen, die für Energiespeicheranwendungen im nordamerikanischen Netzmaßstab konzipiert sind. Neben Batteriezellen werde Pomega auch schlüsselfertige Batteriespeichersysteme fertigen und montieren – darunter Module, Schränke und endgültige Energiespeicherlösungen in Containern.
IRA-Gutschrift von fast einer Milliarde Dollar
Aus dem „Inflation Reduction Act“ (IRA) hervorgehenden Berechnungen zufolge ergibt sich eine Produktionssteuergutschrift von jährlich 35 US-Dollar pro Kilowattstunde für Batteriezellen und 45 Dollar pro Kilowattstunde für Module. Unter Berücksichtigung des vom Unternehmen prognostizierten Produktmixes für insgesamt drei Gigawattstunden sei mit einer Steuergutschrift bis 2032 von etwa 916 Millionen Dollar zu rechnen.
