Der südkoreanischen Mischkonzern SKC hat mit dem Bau einer Fabrik für Batterie-Kupferfolien in Polen begonnen. Das Unternehmen, das mit der Tochter SK Innovation einen großen Anteil an der Produktionskapazität Europas besitzen wird, möchte mit dem polnischen Werk sein Geschäft um Batteriekomponenten für Elektrofahrzeuge erweitern. Kupferfolie für Anoden besitzt eine übliche Dicke von etwa 20 Mikrometer.
Auftakt-Investition von 700 Millionen Euro
Der Konzern SKC und sein hundertprozentiger Kupferfolienhersteller SK Nexilis Co. investieren gemeinsam rund 700 Millionen Euro in die Fabrik, die bis Ende Juni 2024 in der südostpolnischen Stadt Stalowa Wola errichtet werden soll. Das Werk werde eine jährliche Produktionskapazität von 50.000 Tonnen aufweisen und in der zweiten Hälfte des Jahres 2024 in die Massenproduktion gehen. Laut SKC wird die Fabrik in der von Warschau geführten Industriezone „Stalowa Wola E-Mobility Complex“ angesiedelt sein. Das Unternehmen aus Südkorea habe sich innerhalb des Komplexes Flächen zur Erweiterung der Anlage um bis zu 150.000 Tonnen Jahresproduktion gesichert und werde langfristig weitere Investitionen vornehmen.
Weltweite Kapazität von 250.000 Tonnen geplant
SK Nexilis plant indes, bis 2025 eine Produktionskapazität von insgesamt 250.000 Tonnen in seinen Werken in Südkorea, Malaysia, Europa und Nordamerika zu erreichen. Im Juli 2021 war das Projekt zum Bau einer 50.000-Tonnen-Anlage im malaysischen Kota Kinabalu an den Start gegangen, die 2023 in Betrieb gehen soll. Außerdem arbeitet SK Nexilis derzeit an der Errichtung eines Werks in Nordamerika, das weitere 50.000 Tonnen pro Jahr produzieren soll.
