Ford hat einen massiven Ausbau seiner Elektromobilambitionen angekündigt. Laut einer offiziellen Mitteilung des Autobauers plant der Konzern, insgesamt rund 11,4 Milliarden US-Dollar an zwei neuen Produktionsstandorten zu investieren. In Tennessee und Kentucky entstehen demnach insgesamt drei neue Gigyfactorys, die ab 2025 in Betrieb gehen sollen.
Mit SKI rund 130 Gigawattstunden pro Jahr
Durch die Investition will Ford gemeinsam mit dem Batteriespezialisten SK Innovation aus Korea insgesamt 129 Gigawattstunden neuer Jahresproduktionsleistung erzielen. Dazu will der nordamerikanische Autobauer zwei Batterie-Werke in Kentucky und eines in Tennessee errichten, wo außerdem eine Fertigung für elektrische Pick-ups entsteht.
„Die größte Investition aller Zeiten“
Alle drei Vorhaben sollen unter dem Namen „BlueOvalSK“ zusammengefasst werden. In Stanton, Tennessee, soll der neue Batteriestandort indes um den eigenen Werkscampus „Blue Oval City“ ergänzt werden. Das eigentliche Werk soll eine jährliche Produktionsleistung von 43 Gigawattstunden erreichen. In Glendale, Kentucky, sollen 5,8 Milliarden US-Dollar in einen 600 Hektar großen Batterieproduktionskomplex namens „BlueOvalSK Battery Park“ fließen. Zwei Fabriken mit insgesamt ebenfalls 43 Gigawattstunden Jahreskapazität sollen dort Batterien für die nächste Fahrzeuggeneration der Konzernmarken Ford und Lincoln herstellen. Eigenen Angaben zufolge handelt es sich bei „BlueOvalSK“ für Ford um „die größte Investition aller Zeiten“.
