Nach aktuellen Informationen konkretisieren sich die Pläne zu einem neuen Batteriewerk in Barcelona. Das lässt unter anderem ein Tweet von VW-Chef, Herbert Diess, erkennen. Diess kündigte heute Morgen an, in einem Gespräch mit Pedro Sánchez, Ministerpräsident von Spanien, über die Entwicklungen in Barcelona sprechen zu wollen.

Nach aktuellen Informationen plant Nissan am Standort Barcelona die Umrüstung des Fahrzeugwerks, dessen Schließung im letzten Jahr beschlossen wurde, hin zu einem möglichen Batteriewerk. Das Projekt namens Battery Hub, an dem auch die spanische Regierung Interesse zeigt, könnte dabei direkt von den Covid-19 Wirtschaftsfördermitteln des Landes profitieren und 6,8 Milliarden Euro erhalten.
Nach Aussagen einer Insiderquelle von Reuters hätten bereits zahlreiche Unternehmen Interesse an dem Projektvorhaben bekundet. Darunter auch LG Energy Solutions, die von hier aus den spanischen Fahrzeugmarkt mit Batterien beliefern könnten, zum Beispiel die Produktionsstätten von Seat. Auch das deutsche Unternehmen Schneider Electric habe bereits Interesse an dem Projekt gezeigt.
Wie es nun aber konkret weiter gehen soll wird sich jedoch erst in der nächsten Zeit entscheiden, denn das Vorhaben eine Batteriefabrik zu bauen sei noch nicht gesichert. Es sei aktuell ebenso denkbar, dass das Werk zu einer Produktionsstätte für Elektrofahrzeuge umgerüstet wird. Referenz für den weiteren Weg sei eine Deadline am 31. März dieses Jahres. Bis dahin soll eine Arbeitsgruppe bestehend aus Nissan, der Regierung und Gewerkschaftsvertreten entschieden haben, was genau am Standort im Weiteren umgesetzt werden soll.
