Samsung SDI, einer der frühen Produzenten von Lithium-Ionen-Batterien in Europa, um den es in letzter Zeit ruhiger geworden war, hat angekündigt seinen Standort in Ungarn weiter auszubauen. 740 Millionen Euro sollen in den Ausbau der Batteriefabrik im ungarischen Göd nahe Budapest investiert werden. Ziel ist es künftig jährlich über 40 GWh am Standort zu produzieren.
Samsung SDI verfügt aktuell über eine jährliche Produktionskapazität von 30 GWh in Ungarn. Das Batteriewerk war eines der ersten großen in Europa und ist seit 2018 im Betrieb. Die hier produzierten Zellen finden sich heute in den Fahrzeugmodellen von BMW und Volkswagen wieder und waren gerade bei den genannten deutschen Autobauern zentraler Bestandteil erster Massenmarkt Elektromodelle, wie zum Beispiel dem BMW i3 oder den VW e-Golf.
Die Meldung reiht sich in den weiter anhaltenden Trend des Aufbaus europäischer Batteriezellprojekte ein, der sich im Vergleich zum Jahr 2020 mit unverminderter Geschwindigkeit, gefühlt sogar noch etwas schneller, fortsetzt.
