Der größte chinesische Batteriehersteller CATL, der aktuell auch in Deutschland an einem Batteriestandort plant, entwickelt wohl aktuell eine eigene Festkörperbatteriezelle die eine Energiedichte von mehr als 350 Wh/kg haben soll. Langfristig soll, nach Aussage eines CATL-Insiders, das Ziel der Festköperbatterietechnik von CATL bei 400 Wh/kg liegen.

Schon seit beinahe 10 Jahren sei CATL in der Erforschung der Festköperbatterie aktiv und habe hierbei erhebliches Know-how im Themengebiet aufgebaut, so die Informationen von insideevs in Berufung auf eine chinesische CATL-Insider Twitter Quelle. CATL denke zudem auch, dass Lithium-Metall als negative Elektrode für die Festkörperbatteriezelle aktuelle die beste Wahl wäre.

Leider gab es jedoch, bis auf die Leistungsangaben und die Beschreibung der Anode, keine weiteren Informationen zur Festköperbatterietechnik von CATL, dafür aber zur LFP-Zelltechnologie. Denn auch bei LFP-Zellen hat CATL erhebliche Entwicklungsarbeit geleistet und liefert die Technologie heute in Serie an Tesla. CATL soll, nach den Informationen, bald Energiedichten von 200 Wh/kg erreichen und langfristig die Grenze bei 230 Wh/kg sehen. Das heißt im Vergleich mit der Festköperbatterie wäre die Energiedichte der LFP-Zellen deutlich schwächer.
