Der chinesische Hersteller von Lithium-Ionen-Batteriezellen, CATL, hat als Großinvestor 10 Millionen Aktien des kanadischen Rohstoffunternehmens Neo Lithium erworben und dafür ca. 8,5 Millionen kanadische Dollar investiert. Neo Lithium hält die Oberflächenrechte an einem neu entdecktem Lithium Abbaugebiet in Argentinien.

Im Rahmen einer Abbauplanung der Vorkommen wird sich CATL nun an den konkreten Planungen beteiligen. Hierfür wurde das Projekt 3Q von Neo Lithium bereits ins Leben gerufen. Das Projekt hat das Ziel in einer ersten Stufe jährlich 20.000 Tonnen Lithiumcarbonat zu produzieren, während langfristig der Abbau auf 40.000 Tonnen pro Jahr gesteigert werden könnte.

Durch die Investition von CATL sieht sich Neo Lithium im Kurs bestätigt und hebt die Qualität des Projektvorhabens hervor. Insbesondere durch die Investition von CATL wäre es nun möglich, dass das Projekt in einer umfänglichen Finanzierung Früchte tragen könnte.

Auf Seiten von CATL, war in einer Mitteilung des kanadischen Unternehmens, konkret folgende Aussage der CATL Managementebene zu vernehmen: „CATL ist sehr erfreut, diese strategische Investition in Neo Lithium abzuschließen. Wir glauben, dass das 3Q-Projekt ein attraktives Entwicklungsprojekt ist, das von unserer Expertise und unserem Know-how im Bereich der Batterieherstellung und -technologie profitieren kann.“
