Der seit diesem Jahr weltweit führende Batteriezellhersteller LG Chem, der ebenso Süd Koreas größter Chemikalienhersteller ist, hat nach einer heutigen Vorstandsitzung beschlossen, dass Batteriegeschäft als eigenständige Einheit auszugliedern. Das neue Unternehmen, was nach der Zustimmung der Aktionäre in einer Versammlung am 30. Oktober, am 1. Dezember dieses Jahres gegründet werden soll, wird den vorläufigen Namen LG Energy Solutions tragen.

„Wir glauben, dass jetzt der richtige Zeitpunkt für die Ausgliederung unserer Batterie-Geschäftseinheit ist, die sich auf diese Weise auf ihre eigenen Spezialgebiete konzentrieren kann. Die Abspaltung wird die Geschäftseffizienz verbessern und den Unternehmens- und Aktionärswert steigern“, sagte LG Chem in einer Erklärung.

Das neu entstehende Unternehmen, dass zu 100% zu LG Chem gehören wird, soll in der Zukunft in erster Linie Batterien für Elektrofahrzeuge, Energiespeichersysteme und Handys herstellen. LG Chem geht davon aus, dass das neue Unternehmen bis zum Jahr 2024 ein mehr als doppelt so hohes Absatzvolumen an Batteriezellen, im Vergleich zu heute, erreichen wird. Um alleine die Führungsrolle in Bezug auf den weltweiten EV Batteriemarkt weiterhin zu behalten, hat LG Chem bereits vorab angekündigt die jährliche Energiespeicherproduktionsleistung auf 120 GWh bis zum Jahr 2021 zu erhöhen.
