UL Solutions Inc. has commissioned a North American battery testing laboratory in Auburn Hills, Michigan. The company claims the facility is one of the largest labs of its kind for electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles, and industrial applications in the entire United States.
Focus on safety and reliability testing
The laboratory is part of the Oakland Technology Park near Detroit. According to UL Solutions, it is designed to help improve the safety and reliability of energy storage systems. The facility provides testing capabilities for automotive and industrial manufacturers and suppliers. Tests include thermal fire propagation, electrical stress, and mechanical as well as environmental durability. These tests are based on international standards such as those of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).
Sites in Germany, Spain, and Asia
The new Michigan laboratory expands UL Solutionsʼ global network of testing facilities, including locations in the United States, Germany, China, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and Spain. According to the company, the expansion is in response to the global trend toward electrification, which affects a wide range of industries in addition to electric mobility.
