Der US-Automobilhersteller Stellantis und BMW haben mit Panasonic Gespräche über eine Zusammenarbeit beim Bau von Batteriewerken für Elektrofahrzeuge in Nordamerika aufgenommen. Das geht aus einem Bericht des „Wall Street Journal“ hervor.
Zylindrische 4680er-Zellen erregen Aufmerksamkeit
Der japanische Elektronikkonzern Panasonic hat in den vergangenen zehn Jahren für Tesla als seinen wichtigsten Automobilkunden mehrere Milliarden zylindrischer Batteriezellen für Elektrofahrzeuge hergestellt. Neben Panasonic arbeiten derzeit auch andere Unternehmen an größeren Versionen solcher Zellen, die bereits die Aufmerksamkeit zahlreicher Automobilhersteller auf sich gezogen haben.
Stellantis plant dritte Fabrik in Nordamerika
Das Unternehmen Stellantis, zu dessen Marken Chrysler und Jeep gehören, hat unterdessen mitgeteilt, dass es zwischen April und Juni 2023 Details zu einer dritten nordamerikanischen Batteriefabrik publik machen möchte. Stellantis führe daher aktuell Gespräche mit Panasonic als möglichem Partner für das Produktionswerk. Die Verhandlungen befänden sich in einem frühen Stadium.
Auch BMW an Partnerschaft interessiert
Zu den Interessenten zählt indes auch der deutsche Automobilkonzern BMW, der im vergangenen Jahr angekündigt hatte, in seiner neuen Klasse von Elektroautos ab 2025 große zylindrische Batterien anstelle der prismatischen Akkus zu verwenden, die in früheren Modellen zum Einsatz kamen. Dazu plane BMW den Bau von sechs neuen Batteriewerken in Europa, China und in der nordamerikanischen Freihandelszone, die die USA sowie Kanada und Mexiko umfasst. Ursprünglich sollte BMW die Batterien in den USA vom chinesischen Unternehmen Envision AESC beziehen.
