Der US-amerikanische Batterieentwickler KORE Power hat sich für Siemens als Technologiepartner für seine geplante Zwölf-Gigawattstunden-Produktionsanlage für Lithium-Ionen-Batteriezellen entschieden. Das Werk soll in der Nähe von Buckeye im US-Bundesstaat Arizona entstehen und den Namen „the KOREPlex“ tragen. Mit der Fertigstellung rechnet der Konzern bis Anfang 2025. Zellen aus dem neuen Werk sollen sowohl in der Elektromobilität als auch in stationären Energiespeichern zum Einsatz kommen.
Auch finanzielle und personelle Beteiligung
Siemens ist neben der technologischen Unterstützung auch finanziell an dem Vorhaben beteiligt. Im vergangenen Jahr war bereits bekannt geworden, dass „Siemens Financial Services“ der Hauptinvestor der ersten privaten Finanzierungstranche in Höhe von 75 Millionen US-Dollar für die neue Anlage von KORE war. Ende Februar 2023 hatte KORE zudem verkündet, Jason Thompson, Vizepräsident des Bereichs „Private and Growth Equity“ von „Siemens Financial Services“, in den Vorstand von KORE Power berufen zu haben.
