Der Schweizer Batterie- und Energiespeichersystem-Produzent Leclanché hat neu entwickelte G/NMCA-Zellen präsentiert. Sie werden in einem wasserbasierten Verfahren mit einem reduzierten Kobaltanteil in der Kathode hergestellt und seien somit umweltfreundlicher in der Produktion als herkömmliche Lithium-Ionen-Zellen. In einer offiziellen Mitteilung spricht das Unternehmen zudem von einer Steigerung der Energiedichte um 20 Prozent gegenüber G/NMC-Zellen sowie einer „sehr guten Performance“.
Bis zu 30 Prozent Energieeinsparung
Eigenen Angaben zufolge setzt Leclanché bei der Fertigung auf wässrige Bindemittel und kann daher vollständig auf organische Lösemittel verzichten. Dies senke die Risiken für Personal und Umwelt und ermögliche eine Verschlankung der Prozesskette nach dem Schritt des Beschichtens. Der Energieverbrauch lasse sich damit um zehn bis 30 Prozent verringern.
Kobalt-Quote sinkt von 20 auf fünf Prozent
Der Kobalt-Anteil in den Elektroden sei durch das neue Verfahren von vormals 20 auf numehr fünf Prozent reduziert worden, teilt das Unternehmen mit. Die dadurch ermöglichte Steigerung des Nickel-Anteils auf 90 Prozent sei für die Erhöhung der Energiedichte verantwortlich. Der Konzern geht indes davon aus, dass die neuen Zellen bereits im Jahr 2024 am Markt starten. Sie seien besonders gut für den Einsatz in Elektro-Autos sowie für Schwerlastanwendungen geeignet – etwa in Schiffen, Bussen und Lastwagen.
