LG Energy und Honda Motor haben ein Joint Venture zur Produktion von Lithium-Ionen-Batterien geschlossen. Die hergestellten Zellen sollen ausschließlich für die von Honda produzierten Elektrofahrzeuge verwendet werden.

Pläne für Produktionsstandort bereits finalisiert

Noch zu Beginn dieses Jahres soll dafür ein Batteriewerk errichtet werden. Der Produktionsstart sei für Ende 2025 angesetzt. Die Anlage soll eine jährliche Produktionskapazität von bis zu 40 Gigawattstunden bieten. 

Auch der Standort steht bereits fest: Das Werk entsteht im US-Bundesstaat Georgia, etwa 65 Kilometer südwestlich von Columbus im Fayette County. Mit den Plänen im Zusammenhang mit dem Joint Venture geht eine Gesamtinvestition der Unternehmen von voraussichtlich 4,4 Milliarden US-Dollar einher.
