Envision AESC hat mit dem Bau einer Gigafabrik im englischen Sunderland begonnen. Mit anfänglich zwölf Gigawattstunden soll die Zellproduktion im Jahr 2025 mit mehr als 1.000 Mitarbeitenden den Betrieb aufnehmen. Zuletzt war eine Startkapazität von elf Gigawattstunden für das Jahr 2024 kommuniziert worden. Derzeit fertigt das Unternehmen bereits Batteriezellen in Sunderland.

Auch Module und Packs aus Sunderland?

Die 2012 noch von Nissan erbaute Anlage besitzt eine Kapazität von 1,9 Gigawattstunden. Es ist unterdessen weiterhin unklar, ob in dem kommenden Werk ausschließlich Zellen gefertigt oder auch Module und Systeme montiert werden sollen. Derzeit wird allerdings mit der Produktion auch von Modulen und Packs gerechnet, da das benachbarte Nissan-Werk die Batterien in einem fertig montierten Zustand übernimmt.
