Motiviert von Steuervorteilen, haben etablierte Hersteller in den vergangenen Monaten hohe Investitionen in Produktionsanlagen für Elektroautos und deren Komponenten in den USA angekündigt. Honda machte nun ein Investment von rund 700 Millionen US-Dollar zur Umrüstung dreier Werke publik, die unter anderem einen „EV-Hub“ im Bundesstaat Ohio vorsieht.
Honda und LG planen Milliarden-Kooperation
3,5 Milliarden Dollar sollen außerdem in ein neues Joint Venture zwischen Honda und LG Energy Solution fließen, das ein Batteriezellwerk im Fayette County im Bundesstaat Pennsylvania errichten möchte. Dort sollen mit einem Jahresvolumen von 40 Gigawattstunden Pouch-Zellen für elektrische Fahrzeuge von Honda hergestellt werden. Die Ankündigung ändere unterdessen nichts an den Plänen zur Einführung des ersten Elektrofahrzeugs in einer Kooperation mit GM, die für das Jahr 2024 vorgesehen ist. Ein zweites, aus Hondas Eigenentwicklung stammendes und für 2026 geplantes Elektrofahrzeug soll indes lokal in den USA produziert werden.
„Our Next Energy“ bestätigt Standort
Auch vom BMW-unterstützten US-amerikanischen Batterie-Start-up-Unternehmen „Our Next Energy“ gibt es nun konkrete Informationen zum geplanten Produktionsstandort: Das Werk soll ebenso wie der Firmensitz im Bundesstaat Michigan entstehen. Der Einsatz von 1,6 Milliarden US-Dollar soll die Produktion ab dem Jahr 2024 ermöglichen. Von diesem Zeitpunkt an soll das Volumen kontinuierlich hochgeschraubt werden, bis Ende 2027 eine finale Jahreskapazität von 20 Gigawattstunden an LFP-Zellen erreicht ist. Neben den Zellen selbst soll an dem Standort auch die Herstellung des benötigten Kathodenmaterials gewährleistet sein. Ein Mietvertrag für ein 60.000 Quadratmeter großes Gebäude sei bereits unterzeichnet.
