Der südkoreanische Stahlerzeuger POSCO hat die Bauphase seines Recycling-Werks für Batteriezellen in der polnischen Ortschaft Dyhernfurth abgeschlossen. An dem Standort sollen jährlich 7.000 Tonnen „schwarzer Masse“ aus alten Zellen hergestellt werden, die aus dem europäischen Markt stammen. Dabei handelt es sich um ein Pulver, das zu großen Teilen aus den wertvollen Metallen besteht, die in Lithiumzellen zum Einsatz kommen. Den ersten Spatenstich hatte der Konzern im Oktober 2021 gesetzt.
Südkoreanischer Partner steuert Technologie bei
Partner in dem Projekt ist das ebenfalls in Südkorea beheimatete Unternehmen SungEel HiTech, das mit geschützten Technologien in der Batterieverwertung den Betrieb des Werks unterstützen soll. „Das Recycling ist ein essenzieller Schritt im positiven Kreislauf der umweltfreundlichen Batteriezellen im Kerngeschäft für sekundäre Batteriematerialien der POSCO Group“, sagt Byeong-og Yoo, Leiter des Business-Teams für Grüne Ressourcen und Energie des Unternehmens.
