Der deutsche Autobauer BMW hat sich Lithium aus Österreich gesichert. Das australische Unternehmen „European Lithium“ soll BMW mit Lithiumhydroxid aus dem etwa 270 Kilometer südlich von Wien gelegenen Wolfsbergen beliefern. Das entsprechende Werk befindet sich aktuell noch in der Bauplanung. Der Erlös aus der Vorauszahlung des Münchener DAX-Konzerns wird laut „European Lithium“ für den Beginn der Bauphase verwendet.

Unterstützung bei Bauphase

Derzeit handelt es sich noch um eine unverbindliche Absichtserklärung. Sollte es zu einem Vertragsschluss kommen, werde die Vorauszahlung umgerechnet etwa 15 Millionen Euro betragen. Im Jahr 2018 hatte „European Lithium“ eine Vorabmachbarkeitsstudie erfolgreich abgeschlossen. Die Untersuchung basiert auf der gemessenen und angezeigten Ressource von 6,3 Millionen Tonnen bei 1,17 Prozent Lithiumoxid.
