Der schwedische Volvo Konzern hat zur Deckung der wachsenden Nachfrage nach batterieelektrischen Schwerlastfahrzeugen und -maschinen den Prozess zur Errichtung einer Produktionsanlage für Batteriezellen in Schweden eingeleitet.

Skaraborg als idealer Standort

Eine Studie hat mit der Skaraborg-Region in Schweden den idealen Standort für das erste Zellwerk ausfindig gemacht. Volvo nennt die direkte Nähe zur bereits bestehenden Powertrain-Produktion in Skövde mit vorhandener Industrie- und Logistikinfrastruktur sowie die hohe Kompetenz in technisch fortgeschrittener Massenproduktion als Argumente für die Auswahl.

Der endgültige Festlegung auf den Standort in Skaraborg ist noch nicht erfolgt. Ebenso ist die Bau- und Betriebsgenehmigung noch ausstehend.

Zellproduktion ist naheliegender nächster Schritt

Mit der Ambition, das Rennen zum dekarbonisierten Transportwesen anzuführen hat sich der Konzern große Ziele gesetzt. Bereits 2030 sollen 35% aller Produkte mit einem elektrischen Antriebsstrang ausgestattet sein. Derzeitig herrsche eine große Nachfrage nach Batteriebetriebenen Fahrzeugen, betont Volvo Group CEO Martin Lundstedt. Die Produktion der geforderten großen Mengen an Batteriezellen möchte der Konzern nun auch selbst in sein Repertoire aufnehmen.
