Die BMW Group hat die zweite Fertigungslinie für Batteriemodule im Werk Leipzig in Betrieb genommen. Die neue Produktionslinie fertigt das etwa 80 Kilowattstunden große Batteriemodule für den vollelektrischen BMW i4, der im Münchner Werk gebaut wird. Im Mai 2021 ging die erste Fertigungslinie in Leipzig an den Start, die die Batteriemodule für den BMW iX produziert.
In die neue Fertigungslinie hat die BMW Group rund 70 Millionen Euro investiert. Circa 250 Mitarbeitende werden bis Ende 2022 die Produktion der Batteriemodule in der zweiten Fertigungslinie sicherstellen. Die zweite Batteriemodulfertigungsanlage im Leipziger Werk nimmt eine Fläche von rund 4.250 Quadratmeter ein.
Produktionsschritte von Hochvoltbatterien
Die Fertigung der Hochvoltbatterien gliedert sich in zwei Produktionsabschnitte – die Modulfertigung und die Montage der Hochvoltbatterie. Die Produktion der Batteriemodule erfolgt in einem automatisierten Prozess. Die Lithium-Ionen-Zellen durchlaufen zunächst eine Plasmareinigung. Eine Anlage lackiert anschließend die Zellen, um so eine Isolierung zu erzielen. Danach werden die Batteriezellen zu einem Batteriemodulen zusammengefügt. Die fertigen Batteriemodule werden anschließend gemeinsam mit den Anschlüssen zum Fahrzeug, Steuergeräten und Kühlaggregaten in ein Aluminiumgehäuse montiert.

BMW plane bis 2030 mindestens die Hälfte des Absatzes mit vollelektrischen Fahrzeugen zu erzielen. Der Produktionsstart der zweiten Linie sei ein wichtiger Beitrag die wachsende Zahl der elektrifizierten Fahrteuge mit Batteriekomponenten zu bversorgen, heißt es von Markus Fallböhmer, Leiter der Motoren- und E-Antriebsproduktion bei der BMW Group.
