Das Maschinenbau-Unternehmen Manz aus Reutlingen beteiligt sich mit 40 Prozent am Batteriezellen-Entwickler und -Hersteller Customcells. Durch die Kooperation möchten beide Akteure künftig Prozesse und Anlagen im direkten Einsatz erproben, die der Entwicklung der nächsten Generation von Batteriezellen dienten, heißt es in einer offiziellen Mitteilung.

Eigene Entwicklungsumgebung

Die Manz AG errichtet dazu in den Nachbarräumen von Customcells in Tübingen eine eigene Entwicklungsumgebung für neue Zellproduktionskonzepte. Die Beteiligung an der Customcells Tübingen GmbH bilde einen wichtigen Baustein im Kontext des europäischen Batterie-Förderprojekts „EuBatIn“, sagt Manz-CEO Martin Drasch. Die „European Battery Innovation“ (EuBatIn) ist eines von zwei „Important Projects of Common European Interest“ (IPCEI) im Bereich der Batteriezellenfertigung, das die Europäische Kommission genehmigt hat. Ziel der beiden IPCEI ist es, Forschung und Innovation in der europäischen Batterie-Wertschöpfungskette zu fördern.

Mehr Kapazitäten für elektrisches Fliegen

Am Standort Tübingen strebt Customcells die Serienfertigung im Bereich des elektrischen Fliegens an. Zur Erweiterung der Produktionskapazitäten für den Aviation-Sektor zähle der Aufbau einer Pilotfertigungsanlage, die als Entwicklungsumgebung neuer Zellen- und Anlagenkonzepte diene. Die operative Führung vor Ort verbleibt den Partnern zufolge bei Customcells.
