Das US-Unternehmen Sila Nanotechnologies hat eine Anlage mit einer Fläche von etwa 56.000 Quadratmetern in Washington erworben. Der kalifornische Produzent von Akku-Komponenten der nächsten Generation will in dem Werk Anodenmaterialien in Batteriequalität herstellen. Die mit Wasserkraft betriebene Anlage soll ausreichend Material für eine Fabrik mit einer Kapazität von bis zu 50 Gigawattstunden erzeugen.

Entwicklungspartner für Silizium-Anoden

Der Bau der Anlage soll mehrere hundert Millionen Dollar kosten. Das Unternehmen, an dem unter anderem BMW und Daimler beteiligt sind, legt den Schwerpunkt auf die Entwicklung einer Anode auf Siliziumbasis, die eine hohe Energiedichte ermöglichen soll. Eigenen Angaben zufolge plant Sila Nanotechnologies, die Produktionslinien in der zweiten Hälfte des Jahres 2024 in Betrieb zu nehmen und in der ersten Hälfte 2025 fertigzustellen. Derzeit ziehe das Unternehmen bereits eine weitere Ausbaustufe in Erwägung.
