Der Zellenproduzent Italvolt hat eine Absichtserklärung für den Bau einer Gigafactory in den Regionen Scarmagno/Romano Canavese unterschrieben. Der italienische Konzern möchte eigenen Angaben zufolge auf einer Million Quadratmetern ein Werk mit einer jährlichen Produktionskapazität von zunächst 45 Gigawattstunden realisieren und dafür 3.000 Arbeitsplätze schaffen.

Produktion soll 2024 starten

Die Finalisierung der Baupläne werde für Juni 2022 angestrebt. Italvolt erhoffe sich, bis Anfang 2023 die offizielle Baugenehmigungen zu erhalten. Für den Produktionsstart sei der Jahresbeginn 2024 anvisiert. Mit der Unterzeichnung der Absichtserklärung werde der Fortschritt des Projekts untermauert, betont Italvolt-Gründer und -CEO Lars Carlstrom, der zuletzt den Bau einer weiteren Gigafactory in den USA angekündigt hatte. Inwiefern die aktuellen Baupläne auch die angeschlossene Recycling-Anlage umfasst, wird bis dato nicht beschrieben.
