Der schwedische Automobilkonzern Volvo Cars hat in den israelischen Batterieentwickler StoreDot investiert, um dessen Technologien voranzutreiben. Schwerpunkt ist das Schnellladen mit Hilfe einer speziellen Silizium-Anodentechnik. Mit der Investition folgt Volvo einigen Mitbewerbern wie Daimler und Samsung, die bereits entsprechende Kooperationen bekanntgegeben hatten.
Zellproduktion soll 2024 in Serie gehen
Laut StoreDot ist bereits für das Jahr 2024 die Serienproduktion von Zellen geplant, die nach fünf Minuten Ladezeit eine elektrische Reichweite von 160 Kilometern ermöglichen. Bis 2032 solle die Ladezeit kontinuierlich bis auf zwei Minuten gesenkt werden, heißt es in einer Unternehmensmeldung.
Zusammenarbeit via Joint Venture
Die Kooperation der beiden Unternehmen erfolgt hauptsächlich im Rahmen des Batterie-Joint-Ventures, das Volvo im vergangenen Jahr mit dem schwedischen Akkuproduzenten Northvolt gegründet hatte. Die Partnerschaft konzentriert sich auf die Entwicklung und die Herstellung von Batteriezellen für die nächste E-Mobil-Generation von Volvo und Polestar. Der schwedische Konzern plant, ab 2030 ausschließlich Elektrofahrzeuge zu verkaufen.
