Der Volkswagen-Konzern hat lokalen Medienberichten zufolge den Standort seiner Gigafactory in Spanien festgelegt. Die Zellfabrik mit einer Jahreskapazität von bis zu 40 Gigawattstunden soll in Sagunt im Osten des Landes errichtet werden. Der Aufbau werde voraussichtlich rund 3,5 Milliarden Euro kosten und etwa 3.500 Arbeitsplätze schaffen.

Da Volkswagen in direkter Nähe sowohl die Produktion von Elektro-Kleinwagen in der Stadt Martorell als auch die Herstellung von Elektro-SUV in Pamplona plane, sei die Bekanntgabe nur an die spanische PERTE-Förderung gekoppelt, heißt es aus nicht näher genannten Quellen.

Entscheidung zu 95 Prozent sicher

Im Juli 2021 hatte Volkswagen bereits angekündigt, eine Gigafabrik in Spanien errichten zu wollen. Damals hatte der Autobauer den genauen Standort jedoch offengelassen. Die Entscheidung für Sagunt sei zu 95 Prozent sicher, heißt es aus der lokalen Presse. Eine offizielle Bestätigung wird für den Verlauf der kommenden Woche erwartet.
