Die norwegische Regierung unterstützt das Forschungsprojekt „Sustainable Materials for the Battery Value Chain“ der Green-Platform Initiative mit ca. 100 Millionen Norwegische Kronen, dies entspricht etwa 9,8 Millionen Euro. Ziel sei es die gesamte Wertschöpfungskette beginnend bei der Rohstoffgewinnung über die Batterieproduktion bis hin zum Recycling der Energiespeicher zu unterstützen.
Zahlreiche Firmenbeteiligungen
Gemeinsam mit dem norwegischen Institut für Energietechnik und der unabhängigen norwegischen Forschungsorganisation SINTEF wollen unter anderem der norwegische Metall-Produzent Elkem, die Tochtergesellschaft Vianode und die Batteriehersteller Morrow Batteries und Freyr das Projekt nun initiieren. Auch der schwedische Nachbar Northvolt sei im Rahmen des Recycling-Joint-Venture Hydrovolt mit dem Aluminiumproduzent Norsk Hydro an dem Projekt beteiligt.
Forschungsvorhaben von Morrow
Morrow erklärte, dass das Projekt die Errichtung einer Produktionslinie für zylindrische Zellen umfasst. Konkret wolle man in Zusammenarbeit mit Future Materials neuartige Produktionstechnologien für Rundzellen im Morrow Research Center auf dem Campus der Universität von Agder erforschen. Des Weiteren wolle Morrow gemeinsam mit dem norwegischen Institut für Energietechnik (IFE) auch neuartige Anodenmaterialien entwickeln. Dazu gehören sowohl Hochspannungsanoden als auch Graphit und Graphit-Silizium-Verbundwerkstoffe, die auf Morrows LNMO-Zellsysteme zugeschnitten sind.
Freyr forciert Batterienachhaltigkeit
Hege Marie Norheim, Chief Sustainability Officer bei Freyr befürwortet die Entscheidung für nachhaltige Batterietechnologien der nächsten Generation. Freyr produziere bereits Batteriezellen, welche einen geringeren Energie- und Flächenverbrauch im Vergleich zur herkömmlichen Batterieproduktion aufweisen. Außerdem habe Freyr die Verwendung von giftigen Bindemitteln in den Batteriezellen eliminiert, was das Recycling der Zellen erleichtert. Mit der Green-Platform Initiative erhofft sich Freyr weitere Fortschritte rund um die Nachhaltigkeit der Batterietechnik zu erlangen.
