Der norwegische Zellhersteller „Morrow Batteries“ hat ein Joint Venture (JV) mit „Li-Cycle“ aus Kanada und „ECO STOR“ aus Oslo zum Bau einer Recycling-Anlage im Süden Norwegens gegründet. Das an Norwegens „Battery Coast“ geplante Werk soll 2023 in Betrieb genommen werden. Geplant sei, 10.000 Tonnen von Lithium-Ionen-Batterien pro Jahr einschließlich Schrott aus der Batterieproduktion sowie komplette EV-Packs und Energiespeichersysteme wiederzuverwerten.
Langfristiger Nutzen für europäische Kunden
Die norwegisch-kanadische Kooperation werde ein geschlossenes Materialkreislaufsystem zur Unterstützung der europäischen Kunden entwickeln, heißt es. Dabei werde sichergestellt, dass durch Recycling langfristig ein Mehrwert aus den Batteriematerialen entstehe, sagt „Morrow Batteries“-CEO Terje Andersen. Das im norwegischen Arendal ansässige Unternehmen plant derzeit eine Batteriezellproduktion mit einer Jahreskapazität von 43 Gigawattstunden aus 100 Prozent Wasserkraft.
„Li-Cycle“ hält die meisten Anteile
Innerhalb des Joint Venture werde „Li-Cycle“ mit Sitz im kanadischen Ontario der Mehrheitseingentümer sein. Die Recycling-Kapazität des Unternehmens betrage rund 40.000 Tonnen Lithium-Ionen-Batterien – bereits existierende und fest geplante Anlagen zusammengenommen. „ECO STOR“ als dritter Partner werde das Joint Venture mit ausgedienten Akkus beliefern, während „Morrow Batteries“ den Produktionsabfall stelle. „ECO STOR“ produziert Energiespeicher für private, industrielle und netzgebundene Anwendungen und verwendet dafür gebrauchte Elektrofahrzeugbatterien. „Li-Cycle“ werde indes die Ausrüstung, die Technologie, die technischen Dienstleistungen und das Betriebsmanagement für die Recycling-Anlagen bereitstellen. Außerdem sicherten die Kanadier sich das Anrecht auf den vollständigen Erwerb der produzierten schwarzen Masse.
