Der Chemiekonzern HELM AG aus Hamburg und das britische Unternehmen Leverton Lithium haben das Joint Venture „LevertonHELM“ gegründet. Ziel der Partnerschaft sei es, die Produktionskapazitäten für Lithium-Chemikalien auf dem europäischen Batteriemarkt zu erhöhen. An einem neuen Leverton-Standort im südenglischen Basingstoke sollen jährlich rund 20.000 Tonnen hochwertiger Lithium-Produkte entstehen.
Rasante Entwicklung in der Lithium-Branche
Leverton Lithium produziert bisher Chemikalien unter anderem für das Baugewerbe, die Glas- und Keramikindustrie sowie Kältemaschinen. Nun strebe das Unternehmen den Ausbau der Lithium-Produktion für die Batterie-Industrie an. CEO David Hicks zufolge entwickelt sich dieser Zweig äußerst schnell, wobei sein Betrieb die generelle Fähigkeit zur großtechnischen Herstellung von Batterie-Chemikalien verbessern könne.
„Essenzieller Teil der Wertschöpfungskette“
Die HELM AG hat sich auf den weltweiten Vertrieb von Chemieprodukten und das Lieferketten-Management spezialisiert. HELM ist hauptsächlich in der chemischen Industrie, im Pflanzenschutz, im Bereich Düngemittel in der Pharmazie und nun auch in der Batterie-Industrie aktiv. Laut Vorstandsmitglied Martin Kuzaj ist das Joint Venture Ausdruck des Unternehmensziels, „ein essenzieller Bestandteil der Batterie-Wertschöpfungskette zu werden“.
